Neonatal G-6-PD Screening Assay

The NEONATAL G-6-PD Screening Assay is an enzymatic test in newborns for the quantification of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PD) activity.

This test is intended for neonatal screening of favism or glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PD) deficiency in newborns and is performed using dried blood samples on 903® or 226 blotting paper.

Parameter :

Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PD) activity

Test Principle

The test is based on the oxidation of glucose-6-phosphate by glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PD) contained in the sample. This reaction generates NADPH, the presence of which is quantified by colorimetry using a tetrazolium salt. The signal intensity obtained by measuring absorbance is directly proportional to the G-6-PD activity present in the sample.
