NEONATAL Total Galactose Screening Assay for Newborn Galactosemia

The NEONATAL Total Galactose Screening Assay is an enzymatic test used to quantify total galactose (galactose and galactose-1-phosphate) as part of neonatal screening blood test for galactosemia. This test is performed based on dried blood samples taken on 903® and 226 type blotted paper.

Parameter Screened

  • Total galactose (galactose-1-phosphate and galactose)

Principle of the Galactosemia Test

The NEONATAL Total Galactose Screening Assay kit is an enzymatic assay based on the degradation of galactose present in the sample. The NADH product reacts with the staining solution. The color is measured by absorbance and is directly proportional to the concentration of galactose in the sample.
