Reagents for neonatal screening

As screening innate metabolic disorders in newborns, even prior to onset of symptoms, is the real reason ZenTech exists, we have developed a range of reagents specifically for neonatal screening.

To meet the needs of each laboratory, we offer different technologies: The ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) and enzyme methods are now supplemented by mass spectrometry and qPCR (quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction) to provide reagents that meet the challenges of neonatal screening now and in the future.

Immunoassay

The ELISA and enzymatic techniques are the standards in neonatal screening. These techniques enable the detection of metabolic and endocrine diseases that may cause developmental delays, or even death, in infants. With early detection, prompt management can be implemented, thereby maximizing the newborn’s chances of growing and developing normally. ZenTech markets nine kits using ELISA and enzyme techniques for the detection of eight diseases. To cater for the needs of each type of laboratory, regardless of size, manual or automated kits are available.

Mass Spectrometry

As LC-MS/MS systems are increasingly being used in neonatal screening laboratories, ZenTech has developed new tests to multiplex the biomarkers and simplify detection of many diseases as part of the expanded screening programs for diseases affecting newborns. The new products in the “Targeted MS/MS” range ensure that sensitive and accurate results are obtained quickly and reproducibly.

DNA Analysis

The advances in treatments have made it possible to include new genetic diseases to the panel of diseases eligible for neonatal screening. These diseases can be detected by finding the site of the specific DNA mutation. ZenTech is developing its range and expanding its technology portfolio by adding qPCR to its already reputed enzyme range. The DNA analysis range includes kits for first-line neonatal screening suitable for the use of dried blood samples.
